AI Powered SaaS Platform for Job Seekers

AI Powered SaaS Platform for Job Seekers

SaaSAI

Resume Tailor is a platform that helps job seekers create and customise their resumes. The platform uses AI to generate resumes tailored to the job description and the candidate's profile.

Challenge

The challenge the platform sought to address is the monotonous task of manually tailoring resumes for each job the candidate is applying for. For job-seekers who are applying for multiple jobs in the same industry but with slightly different role requirements, the desire was for there to be a more streamlined, automated approach to generate these tailored resumes. While other services existed in this space already, none were providing an efficient approach to generating multiple resumes without still requiring a non-trivial amount of time to curate each resume.

Requirements

  • Build a platform that produces a resume/CV tailored to a specific job description.
  • Must be low cost to generate each CV
  • Have a sensible pricing strategy to monetise the platform
  • Ability to accept payments online
  • Allow users to export tailored resumes after generating

Solution

Given that this was a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform, we designed a modern, mobile-first landing page to encourage users to sign up to the service. This included a video to highlight the simplicity and speed of the service as well as other marketing material. The sign up flow allowed users to register with either username/password credentials with email verification or using their Google credentials, ensuring users data is secure while balancing a light-touch user experience.

The key element to this platform is the functionality where a user signs up or logs in so that they can create a tailored resume/CV. To that end, the user flow we designed had to be light-touch, user-friendly and performant. Firstly, the user is able to upload their existing CV in either .pdf or .docx formats given that this is the file type most professionals use for their CVs. Next, the job description is entered via a text box input which can be pasted by the user. Then, the user decides on the template they prefer for tailored CV content, as well as the file type (.pdf or .docx) of the final product. Finally, the user hits a generate button and is alerted once the process is complete. We also designed an interface for the user to see all of their previously generated CVs, all able to export again without extra cost. To achieve this, we utilised some generative-AI tools as well as some simple file processing/parsing techniques. We ensured the wording and format of the outputs were optimised for passing recruiter screening tools. Similarly, we included steps to remove grammatical and spelling mistakes.

The other key requirement was to monetise the platform. To that end, we decided on a credits based strategy instead of a subscription format. For each CV generation, the user was charged 1 credit. More credits could be bought easily when the user ran out, facilitated seamlessly using Stripe payments.

Results

From the feedback we've recieved from users, the platform has been easy to use and clear on its purpose. In terms of monetisation, the monthly recurring revenue (MMR) has steadily increased since launch. With more features in the development pipeline, we expect this number to continue to grow.
